“Hogtown:” nickname for Toronto, Canada based on our long history in pork processing and packing
“Rake:” originally applied to an immoral scoundrel, now meaning a dangerously stylish guy, also “rakish:” living or dressing with a devil-may-care attitude
I am a freelance writer, broadcaster and public speaker who is passionate about men’s style and issues. I can speak both to contemporary issues as well as sartorial history, from current dandy trends to the anthropology of bespoke tailoring.
I worked as an arts, sports, music and current events journalist and producer at CBC Radio for over 12 years. My focus was men’s style and men’s issues. I have produced a number of documentaries, features and series on tailoring, masculinity and fatherhood, as well as writing for prominent national newspapers and magazines like The Globe and Mail, Toronto Life, Zoomer and Sharp Men’s Magazine. I continue to be a regular contributor on men’s style to Metro Morning, CBC Radio One’s Toronto morning show.
But I haven’t just sat behind a computer and microphone. I have been active in Toronto’s menswear industry meeting many makers and sellers. I interned as a salesman at Canada’s oldest custom tailor – Walter Beauchamp, where I did social media work and historical menswear consulting (I’ve also written a book on their history being published September of 2017) – and have visited as many shops as my time and wallet will accommodate.
In all that time I noticed that what was missing from the landscape was a guide for how to dress well in Toronto. After years of giving advice to friends and colleagues about where to buy a suit or get shoes fixed, I decided to share that knowledge and experience with all Torontonians.

I have also taught sessions and seminars in men’s style and grooming as well as working as a personal style consultant. To contact me directly about consulting, teaching or anything else, feel free to send me an email.
