MAROL’s ‘total look’ comes to Hogtown

Full disclosure: I am not receiving any fees or commissions for promoting this trunk show, including from MAROL, who I worked with until this past August.

MAROL of Bologna makes shirts. But their customers also wear jackets, suits, ties and shoes, of course. In fact, the company’s managing director Bo Yang has been creating his own wardrobe and approach to style for a couple of years now with MAROL at the centre and other Italian artisans providing the support. You can see the company’s Instagram, and his own, for examples.

Now, Bo is bringing that “total look” to Hogtown. The idea, he tells me, is to work with artisans “who mirror MAROL’s aesthetic vision and style.” And artisans who are just as concerned as MAROL with precision craftsmanship. Most excitingly, this set up will be part of MAROL’s new Toronto showroom, so continuity is built right in.

More on that later, but for now, the artisans (all prices in Euros):

Shirts – MAROL – Bologna

Having worked with this company for over a year, and owning a number of their shirts, I can personally attest to their unparalleled quality, craftsmanship and fit.
Starting prices: made-to-order €275 / made-to-measure €325 / bespoke €395 (mtm and bespoke have a two shirt minimum)

Tailoring – Pino Peluso – Naples

I first met Pino this past spring when he created a fantastic pair of summer trousers for me. His approach is thoroughly Neapolitan but with obsessive detail and fine finishing.
Starting prices: two-piece suits €3500, overcoats €3500, jackets €2900

Accessories – Sevenfold Firenze – Florence

Kenji Kaga is not only the creator and creative director of this sartorial brand of ties and accessories, he is a style icon in his own right. That sense of style inspires his entire collection.
Seven fold ties: €200

Shoes – Enzo Bonafè – Bologna

Usually only offered in stock sizes, you will be able to customise made-to-order handwelted shoes to such an extent (including a fitting) it’s practically made-to-measure.
Starting price: €700

Not all of these artisans will be present for this inaugural event – Pino and the MAROL team will be here – but you will be able to see a selection from everyone, with the other artisans making their way to Toronto in the coming months. Pino himself will return early in the new year for fittings and more appointments.

The new MAROL Toronto showroom will remain available after this event for private appointments. This is another unique opportunity. Usually, overseas artisans only have a presence in a city when they are actually in town or stocked by a store. With the showroom, you will be able to have an ongoing relationship including, most usefully, the status of your orders through MAROL.

The event will happen in two parts: there is an opening reception on Thursday, Nov 1, 10am-12pm, at the Westin Prince in York Mills. Then the trunk show itself: Nov 2-3, 10am-7pm, at the new MAROL Toronto showroom at 1 King St. W.

I myself will be attending the trunk show for a first fitting of a Pino Peluso jacket as well as ordering another MAROL shirt. I’m also curious to see the Bonafè selection on offer (I visited the factory in Bologna in June).

If you are interested in attending, contact bo@marol.it to book an appointment.
