Media roundup: 10 Garments, interviews and Dandies

The last little while has been a busy time for me in terms of menswear, with the launch of my book, interviews and articles, as well as a feature documentary on CBC Radio. I wanted to round up all the action into one place:

CBC Radio One – Here and Now interview

Soon after my book was released, I did this live interview with Gill Deacon on CBC Radio One Toronto’s “Here and Now” about how to think about our clothing in a more sustainable, joyful way.
You can listen to the ten minute interview here.

Robb Report – 10 Garments review

Writer Eric Twardzick calls my book “a masterclass in building a timeless, sustainable wardrobe.” For this feature, he also interviewed me for my top recommendations for building and enjoying a more thoughtful wardrobe.
You can read it here.

Cultural Debris – podcast interview

Alan Cornett interviewed me for this hour-long discussion. We go behind some of the stories in 10 Garments, heap more praise on our favourite writer G. Bruce Boyer, and dissect the history of menswear in 20th century America.
You can listen to the podcast here.

Silk Xchange – “Gent of the Month” feature

This online marketplace for second-hand classic menswear asked me a series of questions about my approach to style and clothing regrets. I also reveal what happened when I wore shorts in Portugal.
You can read the entire article here.

Dundurn Blog – “Comfortable” Clothes article

The publisher of my book, Dundurn Press, recently asked me to write an article for their blog about clothing, the pandemic and how work-from-home is affecting our dress. I argue that our definition of “comfort” is narrow and needs to be redefined.
You can read the article here.

CBC Radio One “Ideas” – “The Dandy Rebel” Documentary

I spent the last few months researching, interviewing and writing this hour long documentary about the people who, over the last two hundred years, have used clothing to challenge political, sexual, racial and cultural norms. I spoke with physician and dresser extraordinaire Dr. Andre Churchwell, Dandy photographer Rose Callahan, and authors Monica Miller, Chris Breward and Ian Kelly.
You can read an essay I wrote about the documentary and listen to it streaming here.
