This past June, during my sartorial voyage through Bologna, Milan, Florence and Naples, a chance encounter had a major impact on me. After weeks surrounded by elegance and refinement, I came across the best-dressed man in Italy far from Pitti Uomo and Montpeliano.
I’ve written an article for Title Magazine about the moment. Here’s an excerpt:
He isn’t a fashion model. He isn’t a style icon. He isn’t an influencer. I don’t even know his name. He’s an old man who walked past me one evening in Bologna. Most people wouldn’t have noticed him. His style was understated and unaffected and even a bit louche. And he looked like he couldn’t care less about proportions, lapel widths and all the rules of #menswear.
Love this article. I always feel like I try to hard and that I am putting on a costume when wearing something that truly isn’t “me.” I honestly know when I’ve made the right choice when I haven’t noticed or thought about my clothes all day. Thanks for keeping us on track and reminding us that we need to continually wear the right thing, and not always be shopping for the (new) right thing.
