Announcing a new book deal

I am excited to announce I have signed a deal with Toronto’s Dundurn Press to write my second book. Tentatively titled “Ten Garments Every Man Should Own” the subtitle says it all: “A Practical Guide to Building a Permanent Wardrobe.”

Let’s say you want to buy a pair of leather shoes or you really need a sport jacket, but you’re not sure how to even start. What do all the styles mean? Which ones will suit you best? And how do you identify quality? And then, how do you care for your wardrobe so that it lasts as long as possible?

Behind all of this, of course, is the larger discussion about sustainability. Is tailored clothes more sustainable than other fashion? Not necessarily, but if you approach clothing with a long view – well made items that are classic in design and fit you well – then yes, I believe you can build a wardrobe that at least won’t make the situation worse.

I have a couple of other projects for this blog about to come out (a feature interview with a certain shirtmaker and three more episodes of the Unbuttoned podcast) but as soon as those are done, I will be going quiet until the spring. Much research and writing to do.
